Akhil and Taylor’s Wedding

Akhil and Taylor’s Wedding

Why did you choose to commission a sustainable wedding ensemble?

We wanted a fresh interpretation of the traditional Indian wedding ensemble because we were doing a mashup of an American and Indian wedding. The sustainability piece was a huge bonus—natural dyes just felt better and looked less “costume‑y.” Mostly, we trusted you to make something that felt personal and unique to us.

What did your family and friends think when you told them the ensemble was made of recycled fabric?

Total surprise. Everyone just saw great colors and fresh silhouettes that were a different take on the traditional Indian wedding attire. Once we told them, they thought it was even cooler that some of it was woven just for us, and made sustainably.

What was the process like working with re-ceremonial?

Taylor was overwhelmed with the insane amount of wedding outfit choices. Ateev was incredible at guiding us both through the process - taking us step by step through silhouettes, then fabrics, then details.
It felt personalized to us and it fit what we were looking for in a hybrid wedding. And most importantly it felt true to both of our personalities (more color for Akhil, a nod to the American bridal gown with an Indian flair for Taylor) - while still coming together incredibly well as a matching ensemble.

How did you feel when you wore the ensemble on your wedding day?

It all came together exactly as what we’d envisioned. It was awesome to tweak the pieces through the day and wear them in different ways through the various events. The fabric and dyes really made it feel an heirloom piece from the start - like it had history and personality off the bat - and something we’d want to pass down.
